So the question is since our flight was purposely overbooked did United take advantage of our situation and just leave and cause all of us great pain and duress with no compensation for all of our inconvenience."

Ci dicono che ci daranno informazioni al gate. Può capitare, naturalmente. Solo che: - le informazioni non le danno al gate, ma allo Starbucks dell'aeroporto, senza avere aspettato e neanche avvertito tutti i passeggeri - ci dicono che nonostante i mercatini natalizi ci hanno trovato comunque un hotel, facendolo un po' pesare, mentre è loro dovere, siccome il volo è ritardato al giorno dopo. Peccato che l'hotel è a 120 km e loro non hanno trovato il bus per il trasferimento (incidentalmente, anche questo è da norma di legge un loro dovere...) - alla fine come assistenza in termini di generi di conforto commisurata alla durata del ritardo, 10 ore, il tutto si è ridotto ad una bottiglietta d'acqua e un kit toilette per il mattino. In ragione della distanza degli hotel disponibili siamo stati invitati pressantemente a passare la notte nel terminal, ma: - nessuna assistenza. Dopo i controlli di sicurezza neanche una bottiglietta d'acqua, neanche un voucher colazione, neanche qualche coperta o cuscino per dormire meglio sulle scomodissime sedie/divano. E neanche uno scusate. - nessuna reazione alla possibilità di apertura della business giunge: è chiusa e non la riapriamo per voi. Neanche per farvi dormire un po' meno peggio. - nessuna specifica informazione ai passeggeri sulla evoluzione della situazione - siamo stati abbandonati a noi stessi, in sostanza Violazioni multiple e ripetute del regolamento CE 261/2004. Ma pagheranno, eh, se pagheranno..."

Punti negativi: "The SAS Supervisor at the gate permitted all preferred-level economy class ticketed passengers to board irrespective of the amount of their carry-on items - in some cases as many as three different items and many over-sized as per the measuring box located at the gate walkway, before conducting a bag-by-bag weight check on all the remaining economy ticketed passengers. Any carry-on item over 8 kgs was refused access to the airplane, and had to be unpacked at the gate in full view of other passengers to remove all electronic devices or breakable items, prior to being left with the gate agent to be placed on the plane as checked luggage. This procedure was conducted in an officious and highly non-customer friendly way, and was embarrassing to those passengers who had to "strip down" their single bag, in particular for female passengers who had overnight clothing and toiletries. A more practical and customer appropriate approach should replace such a draconian procedure."

I think the site for the airline is buggy, as it was also an ordeal by trial-and-error to try to check in online. I also could not elect to check a bag during the on line check in process, which I know is sometimes an option. When I arrived at the airport, the check in was a mess (ton of people, everyone was taking forever at the counter) and when I FINALLY arrived at the counter, I was informed that I needed to take a handwritten receipt from the check in counter, go up a floor and wind through a few corridors to find some travel agent (?) desk to pay 40 Euros for my checked bag. Which actually was 48 Euros because I needed to use a card, and was not paying by cash. After I managed to find the desk where I needed to pay, I had to wind my way back downstairs and muscle my way back into the line I had already waited in to finish the check in process. When we arrived in Split, 25% of the flight was missing their bags, which included a member of the party I was traveling with. It took an extra 30 minutes at the airport to file a missing bag claim, and another 38 hours for the bag to finally arrive. Not a great way to spend the few days we had in Split."

First of all, nearly half of the luggage for the plane was left in Venice. This is a tiny plane with less than 100 people. It's not that difficult to recognize when there is luggage missing. Then, upon arriving and recognizing the luggage wasn't there, we were basically told, "don't worry about it." What? I'm 6,000 miles from home with no clothes and they don't even know where the luggage is at that time! The airline coordinated a bus to Dubrovnik from Split. It's about a 3.5 hour drive and left around midnight. No consideration of how some people might not be able to check into lodging at that time, no compensation for a hotel for the night, and they barely gave us any time to figure out what was happening to make sure getting on the bus was the right decision. The bus driver tried to leave without two of our party because they were *taking too long at the lost luggage desk to report the luggage the airline lost* ! I had to stand in the doorway of the bus to keep him there. The day after finally getting to our destination, I tried to call customer service to check on the luggage situation. THREE times I was asked to hold while they got someone else and was immediately hung up on. I only finally received contact from someone by email two days later. The airline did deliver the luggage to the hotel, finally, but they delivered it to the WRONG hotel and I had to Uber there and back to get it. All-in-all a 1.5 hour cheap flight turned into a 7 hour travel day and cost hundreds of euros more than it was supposed to. Horrible experience."
