My flight was delayed. Alamo closed and I left without transportation.
Punti negativi: My flight was delayed. Alamo was aware of my flight number because it was notified by reservation and they are at the airport. Alamo closed and I left without transportation at the airport. I will never book again. I had a bad time and I was distressed to stay without transportation in a country that did not know anyone. I had to settle with another company.

Punti negativi: Got completely ripped off. Alamo did not honor the price I signed up for and forced me to to pay over $400 when I signed up for a car that was supposed to cost $137

Punti negativi: My rate for a rental in DR was surprisingly affordable when I booked online. I went ahead and purchased the insurance made available during booking. When I arrived at the rental counter, additional insurance was required with the rental, regardless of the policy I'd purchased (mistakenly believing it was part of Alamo's a la carte options).
So I had a useless insurance policy and the required Alamo insurance more than doubled the online quote.
Bastards.

looked after everything for us. She saved the rental experience with Alamo.
Punti negativi: There is a mandatory insurance in the Dominican Republic you must pay which is very expensive. Kayak does not tell you about it when you reserve your car which is very wrong !!!!!!.This insurance us very expensive !!!!!

BEWARE. Reservations do not matter
Punti positivi: Reservation made sept 2016 for the ONLY vacation I get all year at Christmas. Confirmed six times - even before leaving LAX! Arrived and was told "sorry lady we have no cars". Without all the horrible details here's a f ew:
- 3.5 hours begging/crying at counter they did not care although my reservation was acknowledged.
- Christmas day, traveling solo and disabled, they did not care.
- Supervisor got on phone, he did not care.
- I had nowhere to go and NO transportation.
- 3.5 hours later "we found a car it will be $800"
THIEVES AND LIARS. I witnessed FIVE other renters on either side of the Thrifty rental counter told the same thing.

I would NEVER give that country one dime out of my own pocket although the USA has given them HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars to rebuild.

Bad Car experience

Punti negativi: I have rented cars for a little over 10 years now and this was the worst car experience. I rented a car in Punta cana for 13 days and when I got there around 2 pm when I go to pick my car up there wasn't any available. Not even that, before I left for my trip I confirmed it and they told me my car was available. Don't know how that works?? And to end the story short they triple the price? Worst car rental in the caribbean!!!! DONT RENT THRIFTY IN PUNTA CANA.
Horrible service ... no respect for my reserve

They try to look for an indepent car rental that charge me 700 usd, when i book for 250 usd.

The car served us adiquately for the week.
Punti positivi: The car drove nice, but was a stiff ride in the back seat for two adults. We were able to get four adult and 6+ bags. The air conditioning worked well. It had enough power to manuver when needed.
Punti negativi: The Hyundai Accent is a small "Full size" car. Very short leg space in the back seat.
The outside of the car was clean enough, but the inside of the windshield was very bad. Refracted the sunlight to the point we had to stop and find water and towels to scrub the inside clean. I expected the required liablity insurance to be extra, but the required ups and extras almost doubled the original quoted cost. I was very nervious driving, fearing someone might hit me and we were warned of the consequences.
Not American Standards and Extra Charges - Punta C
Punti positivi: Car was fairly new and clean. Upon return rep drove us to our terminal in the car and helped us manage our luggage.
Punti negativi: There were surprise extra charges and they insisted on putting a $1500 hold on my credit card because I declined their insurance. The car was smaller than what I reserved and there were no other options so we squeezed in and didn't have a very safe situation. There were several stickers partially removed from the windshield that obstructed the view.

Punti negativi: No representative at arrival terminal. No transfer to the car rental location. Tried to force to buy an insurance for twice amount of the rental itself!! Price wasn't final and increased about 50%.
Good car doesn't make up for insurance scam and poor customer service
Punti positivi: We had a Ford Explorer SUV that was able to fit our big group and was clean, drove perfectly, it would have been a 5 star review had there not been poor service with Europcar and the insurance scam they pulled on us
Punti negativi: I rented a SUV from Europcar through carrentals.com I purchased the insurance package through car rentals and when I go to Punta Cana they told me that for the SUV I cannot have the insurance I bought, I must purchase Europcar's insurance package. They also said that they DID NOT have it in writing as to where that actual company policy exists. They also did not have any paperwork that showed the different insurance packages. It seemed very sketchy and when I asked if there was a supervisor to speak to the guy said he was the supervisor. My rental went from being $375 to almost $700 with the little insurance scam. I emailed Europcar's customer service the day it happened, after my 7 day trip I still had not heard anything and still two weeks later have not heard from them.

Punti positivi: I didn't like that it was a very misleading experience. I booked through Kayak.com at a price and when I got to Hertz they said that they couldn't give me the value I was offered on the website and charged me double of what I expecting to pay.

It was 10 dollars a day on the Kayak site only to find out when we got to the Hertz facility they wanted to charge more for insurance than the entire car rental price. We had 2 dents on the car that I told the hertz guy about. He saw them and agreed, but didn't add them to the damage sheet! So, at the other end, they are trying to charge us for dents that I have pictures of on my phone! The language barrier was a joke. If I have to pay for damage that was already on the car, I'll be coming back to Hertz for this.

Punti positivi: The checkout process was easy and fast. Our credit cards were charge the right amount.
Punti negativi: It would have been nice for them to offer dropoff service to the hotels so that we didn't have to call a taxi. However, the staff was great and drove us around the corner to the taxi stand.

I had to paid an additional $60 for dropping it off at the same location I had reserved it for but was told that it was not included in the price of reservation, I was force to use their insurance for an additional $20 otherwise they would not release the car even though I had my own insurance.

Punti negativi: Waiting at the counter after a long flight to pick up the car and to be told that I have to pay so many extra including the Collision / LDW of $ 8.95 or $ 19.00 daily when I do have my own insurance.
From an estimate booking of $ 556 I end up paying $ 1696.11.
Never again I will be booking a car hire with a broker.

Punti negativi: Waiting at the counter after a long flight to pick up the car and to be told that I have to pay so many extra including the Collision / LDW of $ 8.95 or $ 19.00 daily when I do have my own insurance.
From an estimate booking of $ 556 I end up paying $ 1696.11.
Never again I will be booking a car hire with a broker.

Punti negativi: The fact that when we arrived they had no vehicles. Literally none and did not even try to help us find one. And we arrived ahead of our scheduled pick-up time to be safe. Horrible customer service and horrible company. Not what one wants to deal with when they arrive to a foreign country. Unacceptable.
We'vw been cheated, they didn't rent us any car.

Punti negativi: They promised us to bring the car in Bavaro although, in the very first day they invited us in Punta Cana Aiport. After we made more than 5 phone calls, on European roaming, calls consisting of: wait a second, wait a second, and we were discussing with many, many operators, calling us on Terminal A, afterwards on Terminal B, and again on A and B, we found out that they didn't even have the car we ordered. We had to pay 70 USD taxi, round trip and also 282 USD insurance for no car. It was a disaster that destroyed our holiday. It's a huge mistake to have them as your franchisors. They don't speak English, it's a huge waiting time, no car, and the services are a disaster!
Horrible rental company

Punti negativi: Bait and switch on prices. My rental before arrival was around 270 dollars and at the airport it turned into 597 dollars. Apperantly they do not accept the rental insurance I have bought thru Kayak (which Kayak recommended) so I was forced to buy their insurance which turned out to be more than the rental itself. Horrible rental company and I am not happy with Kayak that offered me insurance. So pretty much I got screwed. Never again am I booking rentals thru a website.

They didn’t wanted to give me a car just because I didn’t paid much for my reservation online they only had cars if I was willing to pay more than 250$ US. With my reservation they said they don’t have a car and I have been charged on my credit card

We spoke to their customer service desk and got no where. The first day they gave us an economy car when we prepaid for a mid suv. NO credit there. Car was filthy.
Hidden fees
Punti negativi: It's hard to explain, because I didn't really understand it myself. But I'll try: I book a car that was $101 for five days. When I got there the total price ended up being over $550.00. Apparently theres an insurance and other fees that are not mentioned when booking that is required to rent a car. They photo copy your ID, passport, and credit Card too. After it was all said and done. I choose not to rent the car and was charged a $50 no show fee.

Amazing and friendly service
Punti positivi: I was greeted with kindness and even when I was having trouble with my credit card they were able to make an international call and get me in touch with the right people to resolve my personal issue. Very kind and professional.
