Punti negativi: It was very difficult finding how to open the gas cover door release. The AVIS rep didn't say anything. I had to Google how to so I could fill up the car. The release mechanism on the Nissan Versa is located under the dash near your knees so you don't see it. As opposed to being on the floor next to the trunk release or like the new models where you just push on the gas cover door and it opens.

Much Better This Time
Punti positivi: On line reservation easy, price was OK. The overall staff were very friendly and helpful. The car was clean and what I had reserved.
Punti negativi: I had to drive to the airport to pick up the car instead of a oneway rental as I have done in the past. This time they were charging a $75 drop off fee which was something new. Rental went from forty something dollars to over one hundred and twenty plus!!!

Punti negativi: The price using Kayak was several hundred dollars less which was great, but it bothers me that some people would have paid the Enterprise going rate. Why such a difference?

Punti positivi: Great service at the airport pickup. Friendly, clear, concise. Sense of humor + we got an upgrade. Couldn't have been better.
Poor customer service after rental
Punti negativi: Airbag sensor light came on, then a flashing text box on main instrument panel, "service airbag". No problem, these things happen. I figured it would be easy to do an exchange. We had rented the car on a one way rental, from Columbia, SC to Richmond, VA, a distance of some 400 miles, so I called the 800#, and got a voicemail. Then I called the local# (at the airport, where we picked car up), and got a voicemail. Left messages at both. Then I called two local rental locations, explained the problem and requested a vehicle exchange. Both locations told me they had nothing comparable in stock (one had a subcompact, the other a 15 passenger van; the vehicle we had rented was full size sedan). Both said they would call me back when a return came in; got no return call from either. On the last day of our four day trip, when we had already driven to Richmond, VA, received a call from Airport location, asking if I wanted to speak with the manager. Day (2 actually) late, dollar short.

Punti negativi: I usually select the managers special which was $560 where they choose the car. They had options available but elected to give me a compact for the $560 for 9 days. Really? A compact for 9 days at $560? I cancelled my reservation at that point
I usually get good options of a mid size or better, and most of the time a full size truck, hence why I go with the manager special.
I explained to them I was carrying 4 people around for a week and they didn't seem to care.
I had doubled booked with Enterprise to cover myself. Glad I did. At Enterprise I got a luxury SUV for the same price. I guess Hertz didn't need my $600?

We are both on the same insurance policy that covered the car. This was very inconvenient on a 700 mile trip but $100 for her to drive was outrageous.

Erroneous extra charge
Punti negativi: I was charged an extra $63.55 after being assured by Mr. Clint Spence, Hertz manager associate, that there would be no extra charge for a second driver based on my (and my friend's) membership in AAA.
This should be refunded by Hertz
Rent 2 days but charged for 3 days
Punti negativi: The service ruined my mood when I found they charged 3 days. I used the car for 2 days plus 3 hours. Got the car at 3 PM on 19th, and returned it at 6 PM on 21st. The female attendant said since I returned the car after 3 PM, the 3 hours counted as ONE DAY!!! She said this is the company policy, no matter I feel fair or not.
I have NEVER seen such shameless policy.
Should not have taken the first van
Punti negativi: The van that we got from Hertz at the CAE airport... shook when you were driving between 40-60 mph. It is like it stuttered from getting air in something that was not supposed to have air, or as if it was not getting fuel correctly. Very disappointed. Had to drive to St. Louis from Illinois to exchange the van for a different one. Person who we talked to from Roadside Assistance said we were all set; then when I got to the airport to exchange the van to one that did not stutter, I got the run around because the mechanic wanted to check the other van - I was there to see a family member with cancer - spending hours exchanging a van should not have to occur. Then the second van worked great, but the inside was very dirty with stains all over the carpet and seats, sticky pop on the dashboard, and there were terrible remnants of duct tape that were on the outside of the sides and the back. Who thinks it is okay to rent a vehicle like this? Uck!

I even drove out to the airport to get the insurance off of the rental which I didn't approve in the first place. A complete nightmare. The rental was solely picked based on price and this was a bait and switch!

Punti negativi: When reserving a specific class of vehicle, try having that type of vehicle available. Completely ruined a trip that I planned a month in advance. I needed a pick up truck, reserved a pick up truck. After calling 10-15 times, to verify the availability, I was able to get someone on the phone. Unfortunately they were not at all helpful, but they did mention that a truck would be due back in on Tuesday.

Once we arrived, they racked on $95 bc it was a one way trip! This should have been calculated when making our reservation for what was clearly a one way reservation. Explained this to Dollar rep and they could care less. We were so upset... wasted lots of time and money. Will never rent from dollar or use kayak again.

When we went to pick it up, the company wouldn't let him be the primary driver so we had to pay $12 a day to add him as a driver which was frustrating because we were only going to have one driver. So if you rent with them and only have one person driving, make sure you make the reservation in that person's name.

Punti positivi: Exactly as expected. The price quoted on the website was exactly what I paid. The car worked fine, was clean and the drop off was hassle free.
Punti negativi: I didn't know that there would not be an attendant to check me out when I returned the car to the parking space. Luckily, an attendant from a competitor told me there was nobody to check the car and that I should take a picture of the mileage and gas meter so I could show it to the counter attendant at the rental desk who would do the final paperwork.

Punti negativi: We rented a minivan for a church trip online through Kayak a few days before our departure. When we arrived to the rental company (passengers and all luggage in tow), the Thrifty employee informed me that the car we'd rented was not available, nor were any other minivans. She said that since you don't pay when you reserve, the reservation is not binding. All she had to offer me was a 15-passenger van, which is not covered by our church insurance policy. I was unfortunately unable to rent from Thrifty and had to find a van from another rental company at the very last second, or we would have been unable to go on our trip. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Punti negativi: Their staff is extremely rude. They didn't have the car we reserved. They said it wasn't available and offered us an upgrade for additional cost. We declined their offer. Suddenly, the attendant, whom happens to be the manager, found the car we reserved and indicated it wasn't cleaned because the cleaning staff have left for the day. She informed us that she will get someone to clean the car and to meet them in the lot. We waited for 10 minutes in the cold weather and nobody met us there. We came back in and the manager made us wait another 10-12 minutes while she took care of one customer. Finally, when it was our turn, she wondered why we came back. The car was handed to us extremely filthy. The manager was rude about the whole situation the entire time and never apologized. Never rent from Thrifty or Dollar period at the CAE location.

I was not presented with a total cost, and when I asked what it was, it was $50 more than I was expecting. It turns out that Roadside Assistance was added without my consent. It was removed, but had I not asked for the total charge, I would have signed electronically and been obligated for it.

The rental rate was higher when I changed the rental to include 2 airports so I assumed that was due to a fee for dropping off at another airport however when I arrived at the drop off they charged me an additional $95. Seems like they are scamming people. I would not use them again.
