For most of 2006 and 2007, Wichita Mid-Continent Airport has continually broken previous passenger traffic records. Since the airport has started undergoing renovations, passengers have been steadily increasing. Currently the average yearly passenger count is at a little more than two million, but projections are that by the time the airport redesign is finished close to three million passengers will use the airport. When all is said and done in 2011 the airport should have three huge parking areas located in front of the main terminal. The main terminal will be a long rectangle that is connected to one concourse that has ten modern gates, easily accessible life support systems, and far more stores and restaurants. This will help increase the airport's efficiency and keep passengers happy during long layovers or airport delays.
The airport is the largest airport in Kansas and sits approximately six miles from Wichita's downtown. Easily accessible from many of the area's main highways, drivers shouldn't have a hard time reaching the airport and the parking lots.
There are a few items which passengers might find unusual. First, Wichita Mid-Continent Airport does not offer weekly or monthly parking rates. Also, passengers who forget to pack certain items in Ziploc bags need not worry, the airport keeps them on hand for passengers to use. Complimentary travel slippers are also available. Smoking is not allowed in the main terminal or any of the gates. Those who need a cigarette before or after a flight must go outside away from the main terminal and all public areas.

Main Terminal Ground Level
The rectangular ground level building houses many of the airport's key services. To the left of the central entrances are the car rental desks, a snack bar, and baggage claims. The ticketing/check-in counters and two gift shops are to the right. Connected to this back of the rectangular terminal is square building that houses a large snack bar area, a game arcade, ATM, and another gift shop. This square building connects to a walkway that brings passengers into the upper concourse.
Concourse Upper Level
The upper level of the concourse is shaped much like a football goal post. A long hallway leads to each branch of this concourse. On the left side, passengers will find Gates 1 through 6. On the right side, gates 7 through 12 are found. A number of airlines fly from Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. Gate 1 serves Allegiant Air, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines. Continental Express, Northwest Airlines, and US Airways use Gate 2. Gate 3 handles outgoing flights for AirTran Airways, American Airlines, Continental Express, Northwest Airlines, and United Airlines. American Airlines and United Airlines also fly from Gate 4. Gate 5 serves American Airlines. Delta Airlines also flies from Gate 6.
Gates 7 through 12 are used for arrivals. In October 2007, Frontier Airlines will begin flying to and from Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. As the date nears, their gate will be assigned.
