A few hours south of Mexico City, almost equidistant from the Pacific and the Caribbean is Oaxaca City, the capital of the Mexican State of Oaxaca. In this small town of less than 250,000 residents almost every restaurant and café has a small town feel. Just about all monuments and historical buildings are either in the historical center of town or only a few minutes away, and less than a thirty-minute drive from the city center you're already outside of cement, metal and glass. Many restaurants specialize in regional Oaxacan cuisine with reasonable prices easy to find. Within the city everything is close, and with a car even the mountains and beaches are right around the corner.
