The population is now a melting pot with miles of rolling, golden sand making it a magnet for surfers. Durban is often described as the liveliest and most African city in all of South Africa. The central streets are alive with the general bustling of people. Durban is also noted for its Golden Mile of beachfront. The beaches are wonderful and there are plenty of established hotels, but expect it to be busy. Keep in mind that Durban remains a popular destination for families from Johannesburg, especially in the weeks before and after Christmas. For those interested in being a part of the 2010 World Cup, you should know that Durban will host the draw for the qualifying round of the on November 23, 2007.
