 The 400 square mile island of Cozumel is the largest Atlantic island of Mexico. Located 12 miles from the Yucatan coast, Cozumel is a popular stop for cruises and ferries en route to other Caribbean locals, but there are also many accommodations for more permanent guests. Other than the town of San Miguel de Cozumel and the intermittent hotels and resorts on the western coastline, there are no large accommodations in the interior or eastern side of the heavily forested island. Many people enjoy Cozumel's close proximity to the great barrier reef and the isolation that the island provides. Still, for such a small, out-of-the-way place, Cozumel has everything you could need or want in a tropical retreat.
