Albany is Southwestern Georgia's most prominent city and is growing culturally and economically through the local theatres, museums, and shops that have taken root in the reemerging Downtown area. Many visitors of Albany enjoy seeing what Downtown has to offer, including restaurants, cafes, and the new Riverquarium. Nearby, the Thronateeska Heritage Center is also a historical draw for visitors. As far as nature is concerned, many locals and tourists spend time touring the zoo at Chehaw Park in Northeast Albany.
